Project Description
Los Angeles Fashion Week has been an event that has been around for many years. Although well established as a nonprofit organization, LAFW has been shadowed by other fashion week events such as New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. This project brings a whole new identity to LAFW with the importance of diversity. Los Angeles has a unique factor to its city which is diversity. The best way to express this diversity is through towns/districts like Chinatown, Thai Town, Historic Filipino Town, Koreatown, Olvera Street, Little Ethiopia, Little Tokyo, and Malibu which are key components to this identity project.
The Logo was inspired by the abstract form of the abbreviation LAFW, which stands for Los Angeles Fashion Week. It was difficult at first to create a logo for diversity, but with a little hard work, the final logo was an abstraction to stay neutral and create interest.
My first ever design, after the creation of the logo, was actually the swatch book. The reason I wanted to create this color swatch was to create a gradient that symbolized each town of Los Angeles. This helped with 1. color divisions between towns, and 2. a system for design elements.
I would have to say that the hero of this project definitely has to be this look book. The look book is created with vellum pages, or pages that are see through. The reason for this is to create this concept that each culture is one within the Los Angeles County.
The posters, similarly, were created with the same concept as the look book. There are two different series of posters, 4 for advertisement and 4 for exhibition. The difference is that the poster series are printed on transparent paper. The uniqueness of the poster series is that the posters are binded at the top to create this interactive experience to the audience.
